Temporary Home

This week the world changed forever. On April 20th 1951 Grandma brought a beautiful baby girl into this world. Sherri Lynn. Through the years she grew and experienced many wonderful things from living in St Louis to Colorado to California even Australia. In 1974 she became a mother to Chad Patrick. What a wonderful life they had together. So many adventures and she was such a wonderful mother. Skiing at Keystone, where she worked as area secretary to waterskiing in Minnesota. She cared deeply about other people and alsways cared about her friends. She became a nurse always trying to care for others. 9 years later Sherri and Chad had a new little girl join in thier adventures. Lexie Davis. So many wonderful times they had together. Whether it was Chad getting hurt sledding on hills or lexie jumping in pools when she couldn't swim. Sherri was always there. Through every bad dream and every sickness or temerature she new exactly what to do. She had the answer for every cough or ache. She was a warm and deeply caring mother always cuddling her children but teaching them to not be afraid of the world but to take it head on. She taught them to be strong and to laugh. She would teach them the spiritual side of life. Letting them know God was always there watching over them and so were all the angels. A highly gifted singer, she always made sure there was music. If it was the radio or her singing, the room was always filled with music and laughter. She would go out and sing and share her gift with whoever would listen. She would always recieve such applause and gratitude from those lucky enough to hear her voice. As time went on her body slowly started breaking down. Hips, Knees, Back, Neck, muscles, joints, nerves it all started to deteriorate. Through her singing she met a wonderful man. Gary took her in and then added to the family in his own special way with three more of his own. In all her pain he was right there caring for her in anyway he knew how. Doctor visits, pain treatments and therapy he was right there. Through all the pain she kept her head up and always cared for others even if it pained her to do it. The last few years have been filled with excruciating pain and 90 percent of the time she layed in bed still thinkin about how she was going to do her next project. She would push herself to the breaking point many times to where she just couldn't go anymore. Her baby boy decided to get married she was bound and determined to be there. She loved his new bride. She always said how beautiful and peaceful she was. Sherri was very proud of him. That day at the wedding Sherri was so beautiful. She spend all her energy getting ready and she looked amazing. even though she was wiped out before the wedding even began from just getting ready she wasn't going to let that get to her. As the wedding started she got out of her wheelchair and walked every step down the isle and to her seat. Later on at the reception They danced as much as it hurt her, Chad held her until the song was though and even though it wasn't like when they danced when they were younger it was amazing. Soon after, along came the new baby! Her First Grandson that she had waited for so long to get. She was so happy and overjoyed! She held Jacob with every ounce she could muster. She kissed him and loved on him. In the year that followed he made her laugh as he developed and learned new things. When he was dedicated at church she was bound and determined to be there. She came and brought so much joy and Jacob gave her eskimo kisses just as his daddy did with grandma so many years before. It was an amzing day. So many memories this family has. So many trials they have overcome. On Sept 17 Sherri ended her journey here on Earth. The pain is now gone. Her singing voice is back and the heavens are rejoicing. She has joined the rest of our family with Great Grandma and Grandpa. I love you and I like you mom. Thank you for everything you gave me and for the man you have created me to be. I will continue to make you proud. I will miss you greatly, because I already do. This was just a stop and this was only your temporary home. How you did it for so many years I will never know. You are amazing. You are now home with God and Jesus. Watch down over us and guide us and we will see you when we get there.

Your baby boy Chad

Jacob preparing to rule the world

So we are sitting here. I am updating the layout of this blog and Sarah is doing so your baby can read with Jacob. He is just making me laugh. He has learned a ton of signs which has helped us tremendously but now he is on to saying the words. This is very cool. Sarah starts going over all the words he knows. He makes many sounds for animals. Moo , kaka for quack quack, whowhoo for dog, and he learned to make a bear growl sound. He often uses this when he tries to scare people. sometimes he does it back to try to mimic you if you burp! So much fun, our favorite sound! He has all his body parts down. Even bellybutton. He even knows where Mackenkie is. He lifts up sarah shirt and pats her belly. He even said baby today. He learned to actually say, hot, moon, water (wawa), food, he even tried elephant. Its in the baby can read book. haha. He also knows ball, and Football, (booba)and score. When we say touchdown he throws his hands up in the air. Thats rights its Broncos season and he's ready! We tell Sydney to sit and he has learned that word now too. He says sit! Even pronounces his S very well. HE loves Dad's Truck. When he hears the desil start up he goes crazy, "Dada? dada?" He loves it. He loves to say car all the time. Always points and says, "ca? ca?" He makes us laugh so much. He is so stinkin' funny. Right now he is attempting to feed himself with a giant kid fork we got from IKEA.

.

He has also turned into a daredevil. Part of this Chad is to blame but I guess its better that he ends up not being afraid of the world he has to live in. He has been jumping off of all kinds of stuff. Usually into Dad's arms. He has been known to do a flip or 2 onto his head. It makes all the parents at the play places freak out then Jacob usually gets up looks at us and rubs his head, laughs and goes on. He now stands up on his tricycle with no hands, climbs on the chairs, tables, anything he can transform into a monkey on! By the way he knows monkeys say " e e e e" as well! This video was him one of the first times he decided to go a little crazy on the stairs.

FINALLY AN UPDATE :)

Jacob is now a year and a half and a ton of fun. He has so much personality, he keeps Chad and I laughing all the time. He loves to make different expressions lately, his favorite two is a surprised face with his mouth wide open and a tired face by doing a fake yawn. He is starting to interact more with cousins and friends even though he is still pretty independent. He eats just about anything. Today we went to Costco and Chad had some extra saurkraut with his polish sausage and gave Jacob the container and Jacob scooped it out with his fingers and kept shoveling the saurkraut into his mouth. He loves fruit and eats most veggies, a couple of days ago he was chowing down brussel sprouts. Anyways he is a ton of fun and a ton of energy.
We have a second child coming soon. I am a little over half way through my pregnancy and we are expecting a baby girl!!! We are planning on naming her Mackenzie and her due date is Dec 11. The first trimester was a little rough with being sick but the second one has been great so far, hopefully the third goes good. I feel her move quite often so most likely she will have a lot of energy like her brother.

WACKY DRUNK DRIVERS

Holy crap. Came out of work thought i was going to be robbed. instead it was a drunk dude passed out in his car parked cockeyed with his flashers on! He hit the throttle and ran over the curb and took out a sign . It woke him up he freaked out. I went to see if he was ok as I opened his door. He threw it in reverse almost ran me over. Hit me in the side with his door. I think I knocked it off its hinge. Then jumped the curb almost ran into my restraunt and took off. As he tore out of the parking lot he ran over 3 different medians and then smashed head on into the median trying to get onto elliot. After he was able to get off of being high centered on the median He then took off and jumped on I10 and took off flashers still going! WOW what a way to end my night!

Throw the ball

We went to home depot the other day and they are having vendors come in and give away free food and stuff. Jacob got a ball from Sonic Burger and he plays with it all the time but this night he thought why not try to be a big boy and show mom and dad what an arm he has! This is what he did for about an hour and he's only 10 months now.

Little sliding Monkey

We have been going to the mall lateley to give Jacob something to do. he needs to always be on the go. Well we like to go to the jugle gym play area. Since he like the stairs at our house so much we thought Chad though he would see what Jacob would do if he was put at the base of the stairs of a little slide that stands about 3 feet off the ground. This is what we watched him do the first time we stood in front of the stairs to the slide. Our little daredevil!

Getting a Laugh

Well now since we got one of those new flip cameras for Christmas it has been fun catching Jacob in all kinds of trouble. For some reason I was laying on the ground while Jacob was being so fussy. He crawled up on me and of course as Dads have to do, I started to pick on him. He got some new foam block toys from my uncle David and I was blowing one at him as he tried to knock it out of my mouth. He thought it was so funny. I love when he starts to get giddy.

ChristmasLaughs

As we all know Christmas at teh Bairds can be well.... interesting. since I married Sarah, Russ and Dodie have been coming to the Christmas eve festivities. This means plenty of gag gifts and jokes played on one another. The GIANT ashtray from the 70's was back and so was the heart from the doctors office. John I wish you could have been there. We cleared the room of the kiddos and Christmas went PG13. Poor dave and Natalie we ruined 'em. After Bob got 50 Million in Obama bucks then this is what Russ got. This was a great Christmas and we can't wait to wake up in the morning and do our family Christmas!

If you can't tell what is so funny the boobs bounce to the music. watch carefully again as they dance up and down to the beat of the song!

TEXAS VACATION Nov 11-Nov 17

We had a wonderful time on our 2nd vacation with Jacob. This was our first time flying with him and he did great. We flew into Dallas and drove to my sister's house.
We drove to the watergardens in Fort Worth, which was pretty cool.

That night we had a good time at Main Event playing video games and then headed over to Joe's Crab Shack for dinner, YUMMY!!!! The next day we went to downtown Dallas to see the grassy knoll where Kennedy got shot. Chad had a great time seeing the area and the museum and hearing the theories behind the shooting. We then checked out the new Hard Rock cafe in Dallas. Saturday night Chad and I drove back into Dallas to go to SamOwen's wedding. The reception was amazing, being at the top level of a hotel and huge windows looking out over all of Dallas.

Chad had a great time meeting up with people from CO that he has not seen for a long time. Our time with Jackie and Charlie and their girls was a ton of fun. Jackie was so good to Jacob taking him for walks and feeding him and rocking him to sleep.
Sunday we drove all the way to Houston to go to my uncle's house. My uncle John has a beautiful house, a nice boat, jet skis and a hot tub. So even though it was pretty cold outside, we still went for a boat ride and rode the jet skis, WITH WINTER COATS ON :) we were the only people on the lake!

John fed us some really good food, my dad tried lobster for the 1st time, and overall we had a great time there.
Jacob was soooooo good for the trip. He had a few times when he got fussy because of being tired or waking up in the middle of the night and not wanting to go back to sleep (car rides at 3am to put a baby back to sleep are fun times ;) but Chad and I were really proud of him.

6 and 1/2 months

Jacob has come a long way since the last time I have posted. He has been so much easier the last month. A big part of that is because he is able to sit up and crawl now so he is able to get where he wants to go. He has been great with all the different baby foods, so far he has had peas, beans, squash, prunes, pears and rice cereal. He does try to put everything in his mouth now so maybe he would eat anything I would give him....He has been taking 2-3 long naps during the day and he sleeps through the night, which has been WONDERFUL for me. It has been so fun to see how his mind and body develop in months...
That is about it for Jacob. Chad has started management training at his job so he will be very busy with work for the next 3 months.
We are staying away from my brother's family right now, 3 out of his 4 kids have the swine flu. The 1 year old and the 2 parents have not gotten it yet, hopefully they can some how make it through without getting it.

Jacob turned 4 months this week and we have been seeing so many changes in him. First of all he is growing like crazy, he is already 15 lbs!!! He is also getting to be a lot more fun to interact with. He is laughing a lot more, he turns to you when you call his name a few times, he is talking more, just overall a happier baby. He is also able to entertain himself more. He loves to reach for things and try to grab them and loves to play with his hands and feet. We are just having so much fun watching him learn new things all the time.

Our First Family Vacation to CA (June 23-June 28)

One of Sarah's roommates from college was getting married in CA, so we decided to plan a family vacation around it. This was our first vacation with Jacob and he did soooo good! We started our journey at 3am so that Jacob would sleep and he slept the whole trip, yay!! We met up with my best friend from college, Jen, and her husband Adam. We got to meet her daughter Rubie for the first time and Jen got to meet Jacob. We stayed up in Crestline where Adam's parents live. The weather was beautiful, so we got to hang out by the lake a few times, visit Thousand Pines Camp where Jen and I worked 3 summers, and show Chad Lake Arrowhead. We got to visit some friends from camp and their kids which was fun catching up. Friday night we drove down to Orange County for Lindsey's wedding which was very nice. Saturday we went to Hunington Beach, we laid out on the sand, made sand castles, watched street performers, went to Wahoo Tacos :) and then we drove on to Balboa Beach. We took to the ferry to see Balboa Island to go check that out. Sunday we went back to Balboa Beach to go for a family bike ride down the beach front which was so much fun on a tandum bike (and Jacob attached to me in a bjorn). We enjoyed hanging out there all day and then jumped in the car and drove 6 hours home, Jacob slept the whole wayyyyyy, it was soooo nice.

Father's Day Surprises!

The first father's day is here. We started out like every Sunday. We went to church and Jacob rocked out like normal. He has this routine where he loves the lights and music of worship. Chad and Jacob dance to the music because Sarah's family is notorious for not having rythym so he has to learn it from somewhere. Anyway, then after the songs he pigs out on a bottle and then goes to sleep during the speaking. I guess he can get away with it since he's a baby right? Anyway today after service we went out to In-N-Out Burger and Jacob enjoyed lunch with dad. His eyes got so big as the burger got close to him. He started drooling when he smelled the greasy burger then mom stopped it and wouldn't let Jacob have any. Party pooper. After that we went home and hung out while he started a new trick. Chad was laying on the floor with him and we have been trying to get him to roll over. He is only 3 months old now so we didnt expect him to but it's fun trying. Well today he surprised us. He rolled over numerous times. It was awesome. After all that excitment we just packed our bags because we leave the next night for California to meet up with Jen and Fam. Cali here we come!

Seeing Changes

Jacob is now 10 and 1/2 weeks and it has been so fun to see changes in him. For the last 2 weeks he makes great eye contact and puts on a big smile when you talk to him. He is starting to make all different kinds of noises and Chad thinks he will be a talker because Jacob loves to make noise and be heard. Jacob has also been very alert to lights and music. He goes in his jumparoo and floor gym and he loves to look at the blinking lights.
There have also been changes in Chad which has been fun to see. Early on, when the baby cried Chad would hand him back to me and say I don't know what to do with him, but now Chad likes to put him in his baby bjorn and entertain him. Chad also has found Jacob's favorite sleeping positions and one of his favorites is sleeping on dad's chest, its really cute!
Jacob just woke up and is crying so I will have to get back to this later :)

Jacob's First Day Swimming

We went out to Toys R Us and bought Jacob a couple of bathing suits (Chad wants me to call them boardshorts I guess) because we are excited to get Jacob in the pool. We weren't sure how long we had to wait to take him in but we looked it up and after the umbilical cord falls out you can take them in. Well, we waited until he was 7 weeks and Dad came home early from work and said "let's go swimming!"
We went to the pool and put him in the water and he loved it. He didn't cry at all. As he got used to the water, Chad just held the back of Jacob's head and the rest of Jacob's body just floated on the top of the water. Jacob just smiled and looked around. He was sooo cute! Later, Chad said it is time for him to go under the water and he dunked him under and I said, I can't watch this and I went to the other side of the pool. But Jacob did so good and didn't even cry when he went under. So Grandpa B. and Chad passed him back and forth underwater. I guess really little babies have a natural thing where they hold their breath. Kinda weird and scary.
Chad took him in the shower after and washed off all the clorine and moisturized his skin so it didn't dry out. The whole swim day was like a half hour.
Jacob loved the whole experience and hopefully he will be swimming like a little fish by the end of next summer.

Attack of the Green Monsters.

ok so Jacob just turned one month and for his one month birthday he got a cold. He is loving his new gift. Dad cam home with a cough and congestion one day. It lasted about 3 days In that time He tryed to steer clear but had to help Mom take shifts. So it was inevitable that Jacob got what Dad had. We could tell the poor little guy was getting it because his cute cry turned ito a raspy whine and he just ouldn't breath. Today he sneezed and theese huge green slime monsters shot out his nose. It was kind of funny becase Sarah jumped back and was grossed out. Dad cleaned him off. He did feel better soon after that. Then dude to the fussy nature He went for a walk where he blew out another green monster. Now he is just fussy and who can blame him. Dad feels really bad, I'm sorry buddy!

Bombs Away!

Ok so by now you guys know our kid has some serious gas issues. We thought we would share some of the funny stories from the past couple weeks.

The other night I was watching him while Sarah got sleep. I patted him and fed him and got him all ready for bed. He was so tired that finally after some fussing he fell asleep. I laid him in his swing on the off position . Mind you he is all swaddled like a little bean at this point. About an hour goes by he makes a grunt and all of a sudden he blows this huge bomb. I look over at him and simultaniously as he extrudes his power booster gas he falls over right on his head. He farted so hard it knocked him over. It was so funny I laughed so hard I cried. He was like a little weeble wobble.

Needless to say a kid with this much gas is going to coin his own phrases. Auntie Lexie came up with the first phrase that she refers to as the "foop" Kind of a gassy juicy foamy bomb poop thing. Well the other night again Sarah had passed him off to me and I was trying to get th gas out of him. So I laid him on my lap and took his knees and pressed them into his stomach very gently. Well a little bomber came out so I relaxed him and then all of a sudden 3 huge man FOOPs came out! We cheered because it had been hours of fussing by this point. Then all of a sudden I thought that was a lot of "foop" I better roll him over and look and sure enough it blew out the diaper all over me and my clothes. NASTY! Even pampers couldn't hold the load this kid had!

Finally the other night I was online in a video chat conference with people from all over the USA. They were all admiring the new bundle of ....."joy". All of a sudden with like 30 people in this room he blew such a huge bomb that the microphone picked it up and everyone heard it. They all laughed so hard because they thought an adult did it. I had to explain that Jacob has a very very special talent.

No cool Easter stories, Sorry. We didnt look for eggs or anything, no pics with a bunny . Nothing we just tried to survive the rage of Jacobs stomach all day!

Monday Night Raw - Boobie Smackdown

Ok good morning. Well everyone was right. the nights are rough. well not for me i sleep very well but my poor Sarah is upp all night. You see our kid has a big appitite. Well since I dont really experience it I'll let Sarah tell you about it.

Well, since Chad and I are big eaters, he pretty much wants to eat all night long. He chows down on one side for like 15 min and falls asleep while he is eating. He sleeps good for about 5 min and then decides he is still hungry and wants the other boob. So he chows down on that side and falls asleep while eating and then we both lay down on the couch and he falls completely asleep for about 45 min and then he wakes us up cause he is hungry AGAIN! Since he eats so much, my boobs have gotten HUGE, they feel like balloons that are about to pop sometimes. Chad laughs every time he latches on cause I yell OUCH everytime cause my nips are so tender. They are getting better now, but yesterday they were so sensitive.

Chad wants me to talk about how Jacob saves all his nasty stinky gas for me. I can always tell its coming cause he starts to hold his breath to push and he sticks his booty out and then BOOM, BIG BOMBER all over me and then I hand him over to Chad to be changed :)

He is so cute and has been a wonderful baby and it is all worth it in the end. It has been such a exciting time and experience being a mom.

Chad: It's been so funny when he farts because he can lay with me for hours and never get gassy but as soon as Sarah grabs him he farts so loud and they stink so bad Sarah can't breath. So I change a majority of the diapers. I figure its the least I can do plus Im faster than Sarah at it. Well have a good day and we will talk to you soon to give more scoop from the Jensens.
